Benue State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning, Mr. David Olofu on Wednesday said the government is yet to access the over forty-one billion naira loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Mr. Olofu spoke to our correspondent in Makurdi while reacting to the approval by the state house of assembly for the government to access the sum of 41bn and comments on the development.

The Commissioner explained that the administration was just putting in place necessary measures to access the money.

According to him, the state government has already taken steps to fulfill the required documentation for the loan including Excos approval for re-valuation of the loan, the Federal Government’s Debt sustainability
analysis on the state among others.

“We have not accessed the money yet, we hope that the money would be released soon because we have taken the required steps to access the money.

“I want to make it clear that the loan being sought for is part of the over 69 billion naira requested in 2015, and the present amount is the outstanding of which the 28 billion naira had already been disbursed.

“I want to assure you that the loan sought for would clear outstanding salaries allowances and that of pensioners from 2015” The finance commissioner explained.

Naija News earlier reported that some workers and retirees in Benue State had accused the Gov. Samuel Ortom administration of failing to pay them their benefits and entitlements spanning several months before the government announced the loan expectation.
